What does a business website cost to set up and keep running?
Separate website setup, domain, hosting, tools and future changes. Use a worked budget example and questions to ask before agreeing a website quote.
Separate the build from the running costs.
A setup price and a monthly website fee describe different things. Before comparing quotes, write down what is built once, what renews, and what happens when you need a change.
| Cost | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Website setup | Page or section count, supplied versus written content, forms, integrations, revisions and delivery timing. |
| Domain | Registration and renewal price, who controls the account, and whether a transfer is needed. |
| Hosting | The recurring price, billing period and what the hosting arrangement covers. |
| Paid tools | Any booking, email, image or other subscription needed for your agreed website. |
| Future changes | Who can edit the site, what support is included, and how additional work is quoted. |
A worked first-year budget
Illustrative arithmetic, not a quote or a market average. Suppose the agreed setup is A$370, a domain is A$30 for the year and hosting is A$120 for the year. No paid tools or additional changes are required in this example.
A$370 + A$30 + A$120 = A$520
That is the illustrative first-year total before any applicable tax on third-party purchases. The domain and hosting figures are assumptions, not 9real prices. Actual providers, renewal costs and tax treatment must be checked.
9real’s Get Online is A$370 for the agreed one-off setup. 9real is not GST-registered and no GST is charged by 9real. Domain, hosting and paid tools are separate costs confirmed upfront. The package’s size, revisions, timing and ongoing arrangements are agreed before starting.
For year two, compare domain and hosting renewal prices, tool subscriptions and any planned changes. Do not assume that a first-year discount continues or that a one-off setup includes ongoing edits.
Ask these questions before agreeing a quote.
- What exactly will be delivered, and what is outside the quoted scope?
- Who supplies the words, images and business facts?
- How many review rounds are included, and what happens if the scope changes?
- Who controls the domain, hosting account and website files? What can you take with you if you move?
- Which costs renew, at what price, and who is responsible for them?
- What support follows launch, and how are future changes handled?
A cheaper setup is useful only when it covers the work you need. A more expensive quote may include additional services; compare its actual scope rather than the headline number.
Check whether a rebuild is needed.
A broken contact link or an outdated service description may need a repair rather than a new site. Use the eight-check website checklist first. For a design example, see the Delax Beauty redesign walkthrough.
